Feet problems and the ageing foot
With age our feet are more prone to develop problems. The bones and joints change their shape and may become deformed. Our feet tend to spread and lose the fatty, shock absorbent cushion underneath. The skin becomes drier and thinner.
However, having sore and uncomfortable feet is not a natural part of getting old. There are more than 300 different foot conditions; some are more common in older people. Many foot disorders are preventable, when diagnosed early. There is a lot you can do to improve the comfort, relieve the pain and stay on your feet. Taking good care of your feet is essential at all ages. Always seek the advice of your doctor or a foot health specialist (podiatrist) if you experience any problems.
