Osteoporosis - prevention and treatment
The prevention of osteoporosis aims to increase bone density. The following may help prevent osteoporosis:
- Follow a well-balanced, 'bone-friendly' diet with a variety of minerals and vitamins from different food groups;
- Increase intake of calcium and Vitamin D in your diet;
- Regular weight-bearing exercise (note: swimming is not a weight-bearing exercise);
- Limit the amount of alcohol you drink;
- Stop smoking.
