Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with movement and its impact on our function and comfort. This includes the ability to move and get around, posture and balance, and the range of movement in different parts of the body.

It uses movement, exercise and other physical approaches to:

  • Regain physical abilities, which have been lost.
  • Develop each person's potential physical ability.
  • Keep physical abilities, which are in danger of being lost.

Physiotherapy exists to help people who have difficulty coping with the everyday physical activities they could do easily before.

This may be because they:

  • Have physical disabilities.
  • Have had an injury as a result of an accident.
  • Are recovering from (or coming to terms with) an illness, an operation, or the consequences of a fall.
