OT after a fall

The occupational support you receive after a fall depends very much on why you fell, injuries sustained, number of previous falls and continuing risk of your falling.

The therapy can include:

Group exercises:

  • Exercises to improve your balance and increase your leg strength
  • Exercises on how to get up safely after a fall
  • Group education
  • Anxiety management and relaxation

Home visits

Guidance on how to make your flat or house safer and advice on suitable safety equipment.

This can include

  • Raising the toilet or bed
  • Fitting grab rails
  • Lighting dark areas
  • Improving access to cooking and washing equipment
  • Turning steps into ramps
  • Providing special equipment, such as a stair lift, an easy-access bath or shower or a personal alarm.
