Garden

  • Paths around the house should be in good repair. Remove and replace uneven paths. Keep paths free of moss and leaves.
  • Keep outside paths and entrances well lit at night.
  • Have handrails fitted next to all steps and stairs, and if necessary on the sides of the path. Handrails must be fastened securely.
  • The front edges of steps should be highlighted (see stairs).
  • In wintertime spreading salty sand on wet or icy steps will make them less slippery.
  • Avoid walking on wet lawn or leaves.

  • Do not leave the garden hose lying around on the path; it should be wound up and be put away properly.
  • Garden tools should be kept safely in a shed or a collective area and not scattered around in the garden.
  • Cut back low hanging branches of trees and shrubs close to paths.
