Bedroom

  • Turn on the lights if you need to get up in the night
  • The light switches should be accessible from the bed (or better have a bedside lamp) so that you can switch on the light before getting out of bed. Consider having a torch within easy reach.
  • Have your glasses stored on your bedside table within easy reach
  • If you have a walking aid, make sure you can reach it easily before getting out of bed
  • Have a telephone installed in your bedroom

  • Your bed should be big enough to be able to move around in it without falling out.
  • Beds should have a good height for getting in and out. A firm mattress helps. A bed lever helps you getting in and out of bed.
  • If you have a bedspread, it should finish before hitting the floor. Otherwise you may trip over it and fall.
  • The cord of your electric blanket should be secured safely to avoid tripping over it. The control should be within easy reach.
