Long-term support

The needs of a person after a fall vary from person to person and depend on a number of factors; e.g. the injuries sustained after a fall, the physical ability before the fall, social circumstances etc. In some cases you may just need someone who does the shopping for you. In other cases, if you are not able to continue living on your own and are at a high risk of falling without supervision, it may be safer to stay in a supervised accommodation e.g. a residential home.

There are a variety of support services available to you in your area. You may obtain more information from public libraries, health centres, community and day centres as well as the Council's Information services.

Community groups:

Most voluntary and community organisations are open to everyone and provide a range of services to older people and their carers, including advice on help in the home, accommodation, finance and transport. Some of them also offer social, leisure and care services.

Sheltered accommodation:

Sheltered accommodation is designed to meet the needs of older people. They are easy to access, have an alarm system and often a warden. Some have communal facilities and offer social acitivities.

Nursing homes

Nursing homes provide personal care for someone who cannot manage to live on their own.

Residential Home

This is for old people who could not be supported at home because of increased and/or psychological needs but need only minimal assistance for mobility and personal care. Do you have information on benefits, and carer support?
