A well balanced diet

Milk and dairy products

Foods from this group should be included two to three times each per day. This food group is especially important for keeping bones strong and healthy as they are excellent sources of calcium.

Where possible, choose low fat varieties such as:

  • Skimmed or semi-skimmed milk
  • Low fat yoghurts and reduced fat cheeses (e.g. cottage cheese, Edam)

What is a portion?

  • 1 (200ml) glass of milk
  • 1 small pot of yoghourt
  • 30g (1 ounce) of cheese
  • 120g (4 ounces) cottage cheese
